Art Afternoon
On the 19th of November a trial art club was held at the Edu care centre in Big
Bend. It was a very hot afternoon and everyone involved spent the morning
building up a sweat preparing everything from example cards to organizing
oranges. The posters we made had been placed around the central points and
schools in big bend, this worked really well over the weekend we were inundated
with phone calls from eager parents. Even though the art afternoon was not due
to start till two, we had children hanging on the gate ready and rearing at 1!
During the 2 hour afternoon over 84! Children made Christmas cards, crackers,
lanterns, chains and snowflakes pausing only to quench their thirst with oranges
that Etienne from Tambuti so kindly donated. Everyone helping out found
themselves covered in glitter and surrounded by lots of smiling children. We
really enjoyed spending time with the children helping them make something they
were proud of.
The afternoon wouldn’t have been able to take place without the support of
Shirley Bradford who not only helped us with the advertisement of the art club
but hosted the event and provided much needed equipment. Overall the afternoon
was a huge success and left everyone thirsty for more.
Since then we have had a very encouraging amount of replies for donations to
begin the club on a regular basis and are in the process of forming a smaller
art group. we will keep you updated as much as we can, with our limited internet
access
